Howdy Folks, it is Wednesday October 20th , striking midnight and I’m sending my blog!

Played some fun sold-out shows this month, lots of fun down in Palacious at The Outrigger.  And enjoyed the company of old friends driving from Houston. Ellen and Van Valentine, what a treat. And spending time with Wayne and Cheryl Dodd, our hosts for breakfast the next morning before our trip home.  We discussed old movies we have watched recently and Cheryl sent the link to “The War”, which we will check out soon!   

Then the next weekend down to the Old Quarter Acoustic Café in Galveston to a packed listening room.  We checked and realized it had been since early 2020 since we were.  We meaning Michael Hearne with me at the Old Quarter.  Then Michael joined me at Linda Lowe’s Writers in the Round @ Main Street Theater the next day! 

 

The CMA’s of Texas were scheduled for Wed. October 13; however due to illness of the director, it had to be rescheduled.  So, I’ll have to wait for my “Living Legend Award” until Thursday, January 27th 2022.  Instead of Lubbock, it will be held in Austin at the “Last Chance Bar and Dancehall”.  Little bit closer for us than Lubbock! 

 

Michael and I played another sold out show at the Red Bird Listening Room in New Braunfels and the newest “Songwriter” to be honored at the CMA’s of Texas, Dallas Burrow, was our host and opened for us. If you haven’t checked out the Red Bird Listening Room, I highly recommend it. 

 

Coming up this Friday, Oct.22 8 pm - 10 pm The Post at River East  Shake Russell with Anthony Klonaris on guitar.  Doors at 5:00 PM, music at 8:00 PM.  Come early for dinner!   www.thepostatrivereast.com for tickets.  

  

Then on Sunday October 24th Michael Hearne and Mike Roberts will join me at the beautiful Bernhardt Winery in Plantersville, TX.  Looking forward to it! Bring your lawn chair, cooler, snacks and enjoy the scenery and the music. And drink the Bernhardt Wine!

NEWS FROM SHADY OAKS LANE!  August 19, 2021

 Well, the rain is finally getting here!  It's been threatening for a few days.  It has been raining all around us but not here.  We even went through a hail storm on the way to a private party in Conroe.  Three blocks from our destination, but when we got there, no rain! Today's the Day!  

I've been working on a couple of tunes and making headway. I'm looking forward to playing them for you.  I'm also more than happy to be playing this Friday night!

This Sunday afternoon, August 22, I will be in Kerrville, Texas. On "The Bill Muse Stage" at The Trailhead Beer Garden located at Schreiner University.  Music will kick off at 2:00 PM.  I'll be swapping songs, telling tales and stories with Bill.  Come join me and enjoy he afternoon in this unique outdoor setting.  It will be like playing "The Festival" but different!!!

HAPPY SUMMERTIME from SHADY OAKS LANE........

 We are well into summer and for the past couple of months shows have been picking up.  I've been putting come miles on "Gypsy Silver".  We've been from The Kerrville Folk Festival,  The Redbird Listening Room in New Braunfels, joined by my special guest Michael Hearne, Nacogdoches at "The Live Oak Listening Room", Poor David's Pub in Dallas, music for a wedding party in Garner State Park, another birthday party in Bastrop,TX, to The Globe News Theatre in Amarillo and back.  We have indeed been Travelin' Texas!  

These next couple of weeks I am playing closer to home.

Sunday, July 18th.  I am returning for a show at Mainstreet Crossing in Tomball, TX.  Business is back to normal, so come on out for a special Sunday evening.  Show starts at 6:30 with "special guest" Dallas Burrow opening.  Be sure to be there for his set!  He's a fine young singer/songwriter/storyteller"! Then at 7:15 PM Anthony Klonaris and I will take the stage.  Come early for dinner.  I hope to see some old friends and fans and new fans!

April 27th, 2021 Hello from Shady Oaks Lane

 It is Tuesday afternoon with an overcast sky, but it's been beautiful the past few days around here.  I have been slowly getting back to work and it feels food to see folks out again.  I played three shows last week on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.  The Tuesday show was in Sun City for 87 folks out on the lawn. The Friday show was a private one on a friends ranch in Johnson City and the Sunday show was at Bernhardt's Winery with about 400 folks out on the lawn in absolutely perfect weather.  It felt like old times.  And at all, everyone is being respectful and using common sense in attending, and in presenting these shows as somewhat normal as life opens back up....to the relief of many and dismay to others! Mind your way and easy as we go!

 Some great news!!  My friend and fellow singer/songwriter Michael Hearne will be heading to Texas  the middle of May.  He has a couple of dates down here and we will be getting together and doing a show in Dallas at Poor David's Pub on May 22nd.  Better get your tickets now!  A heads up for all of you in the area, we haven't played together in many moons!  Like February of 2020.  Please check out www.poordavidspub.com for tickets and information.  Music starts at 7:30 PM and doors open at 7:00 PM.  We hope to have another date or two while Michael is here.  I will let you know when we do!

So, the phone is beginning to ring again and venues are booking their calendars again.  Let's hope it continues to reopen.

Saturday May 29th - Kerrville Folk Festival - 2:00 PM on the Threadgill stage.  Check out the lineup.  Dana Cooper will be ending the afternoon show at 5:00 PM.

APRIL 1, 2021 “LIFE FROM SHADY OAKS LANE”

APRIL IS ON US! The wildflowers are breaking out! Texas is slowly but cautiously opening back up!

The phone is beginning to ring, folks and venues are booking shows and events againI Already have a handful of shows coming up in April and May.  I am gladly looking forward to each and everyone of them.

MY UPCOMING SHOWS:

This Friday, April 2^nd, I will be at THE 4-STAR CONCERT HALL. With guitarist Anthony Klonaris.  It is a great established music venue, just off the square, in beautiful downtown Brenham, TX  My old friend Danny Everitt will be my special guest and kicking it off for the evening at 8:00, Anthony and I start at 9:00.  Doors at 7:00 so come on out!

On Tuesday, April 6^th, I will be continuing my “Shake Russell Hour Show” from the Duck in Houston.  The Duck is allowing limited seating still, so if you feel like getting out www.mcgonigels.com for tickets, come on out for dinner and some live music. If you can’t make it out, you can still catch the streaming show, but I would much rather see your face!  Music at 7:00 pm.

Tuesday – April 13^th – Sun City House Concert w/guitarist Anthony Klonaris.  Special guest is Doug Bowman with his original music!  He plays at 3:00 PM and we play 4-6 PM.  Bring your lawn chair and your ice chest and enjoy the fresh air!  There will be 20 seats in front of the stage social distanced if you like.  Please email Richard King to get your tickets:  $25/person rhking75@gmail.com and address to his home!  It is on the golf course, lovely yard and no bad seat!

Along with Mike and Anthony, this is your chance to get up close and personal with sharing songs artists such as Waylon Jennings, Ricky Skaggs, Clint Black, and Miranda Lambert and many others have recorded.
